“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.”
- Albert Einstein
The following photos are examples of some of the Henna / Mehndi body paintings I’ve done over the past couple of years. The paintings can range from very simple to quite ornate depending on the desire of the recipient and the mood of the artist. I often think of Mehndi as my ‘other’ yoga.

The Henna brew I create is safe and non-toxic!

More on the History and Origins of Mehndi
Mehndi is as old as yoga, over 5000 years old. It originates from the same part of the world, mostly India but also the Middle East and Northern Africa. It has been a part of religious and cultural traditions for centuries. Often it was used as a way of praying or invoking the power of deities or the spirit world. In addition to ritualistic uses it has medicinal properties as well as cosmetic properties ranging from lowering body temperature in hot climates, drawing infection from wounds, easing the discomfort of insect bites, taken internally for digestive disturbances, alleviating the symptoms of arthritis, and the list goes on. It has also been used as dye for skin, hair, and fabric.
Most well known for it’s use in Bridal rituals where the brides hands are elaborately painted before the wedding. Often within the design is hidden the groom’s name. An interesting side note, often the groom would have to find his hidden name, delicately tracing the design with his fingers before the wedding could be consummated.
As an absorbent substance Mehndi takes on the feelings that surround it. If prepared or applied in a hurry or carelessly it won’t have the same quality as if it is prepared with mindfulness, uninterrupted concentration, and joy.
Mehndi is an opportunity to be meditative and contemplative. For better or worse, Henna never lies ….
